CBC EPR Facility

Overview of Services

RRID:SCR_022883

The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) Facility of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Research Support Services (RSS) performs, on a fee-for-service basis, EPR and related measurements and interpretation of the obtained data by request for all University of Arizona research groups and external customers. Typical spectroscopic problems addressed by the EPR facility are identification of paramagnetic centers, elucidating their structure (e.g., coordination environment of metal centers of enzymes), and distance measurements between the paramagnetic centers (e.g. between the electron transfer cofactors or spin labels in biological systems). Two EPR spectrometers are available: the continuous wave (CW) X-band spectrometer (Bruker Elexsys E500) operating at the microwave X and Q bands (9-10 GHz and 34 GHz, respectively) and a homebuilt broadband (2-40 GHz) pulsed instrument. Electron-nuclear double resonance (ENDOR), variable temperature and low-temperature (3.8 – 300K) measurements are available for both CW and pulsed instruments.
